This week’s new flash fiction is my entry that recently survived Round One of the NYC Midnight 250-word fiction contest. My assigned genre was Horror and my required action was “people watching”.
I usually expect a twist in your stories, but this one just cracked me up. When I read the line, "The room dims except for a single beam." I thought - Oh No, Scott has this guy at the dentist's office! Turned out it was even worse torture. ha ha ha!🤣
Congratulations on being chosen as a feature in Top in Fiction Weekly. So great to get this recognition by your peers, isn't it?? A great story, Scott.
Well done. 👏🏻 I made though Round 1 with a comedy story that was outside my comfort zone and still needs some work. Then for Round 2 I had thriller/suspense — another challenge! We’ll see. Horror would have been hard for me, too. Love the balance of dread and humour, here.
Fantastic! I knew there would be an old Indian trick in there somewhere, so I kept reading with my shields up. For me, it would be country music, but that's another story. Thanks!
I’d take that over Kid Rock!
Ha, the Times doesn’t send critics to lip syncing
I forgot about that 🤣. They probably have enough other “sinking” things to cover as it is!
I quit trying to figure you out Scott. I just go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Another winner.
Thank you. Couldn’t play it straight with the assigned Horror prompt.
Me, too.

Thx for playing along!
My guess was a tattoo parlor ~ def NOT a Nickleback concert 😂
Ha. Good guess!
Ha ha ha!
Great twist.
Thanks, Jason!
Ahahaha! I expect something and then you catch me wrong-footed again.
Thanks for always reading and supporting!
Great story Scott, I can't believe how you fool me every time,??
Thanks Gary and thanks for reading!!
Hahahahaha! Killing it with the humor this week! 👍
Thanks buddy. My first and last try at “horror”
Now, now. Never say never!
Nothing could have prepared me for the horrors at the end. Shutter!
😎

Thank you! I appreciate so much supportive readers like you and the folks at TIF
Awesome, Scott.
Thanks, Marty! And thanks for reading!
Nice surprise at the end.
Thank you!
Ha! Very good question.
😎
Ha ha! I rather like Nickelback. I know it's trendy to have them but they're not that bad. Good story, though. Made me chuckle.
Thx, yes, blame the NYT lol
I chuckled as I read your response, Scott.

Thx and congrats (and good luck, I’ve got RomCom)
Thanks and good luck to you, too!
Has anyone thought to soundtrack their horror movie with Nickelback?
Ha!

Thx ha yes there were a number of options!
